Sir Rowan and the Camerian Conquest

Having had the opportunity to review one of Chuck Black’s books, Sir Quinlan and the Swords of Valor, I was doubly delighted to be able to review the sixth book in The Knights of Arrethtrae series.

Continuing in similar fashion, Sir Rowan and the Camerian Conquest tells the story of how pride can keep us from the life God intended us to have. Rowan, a promising knight-in-training, becomes a professional fighter. In the beginning, he thought his fighting ability could be used to serve the Prince; however, he became caught up in fame, fortune, pride, and worldly items. After being left for dead, Rowan is nursed back to physical and spiritual health by a young widow. Sir Rowan and the Camerian Conquest tells the story of the importance of following the mission God intends for us.

Black uses the lives of the Knights to let the story of salvation and redemption come to life. Along the way, we learn the pitfalls of pride, and see how God can heal hurts. Black uses Sir Rowan’s story to tell the story of the end of days. Introducing two prophets—the 2 witnesses in Revelation—he tells the story of the rise of the antichrist. Powerful to the end, the book brings The Bible to life in a manner today’s youth will understand.

His use of knights makes the book attractive to the younger crowd who are enthralled with books similar to Harry Potter. You can rest assured; though, they are biblically based. While meant to be Youth/Teen fiction, they are equally entertaining to adults. The books contain questions and answers which would make them suitable for a mid-high or high school small group study. Hands down…this series is easily my favorite pick for safe, sound, teen fiction!
