You can really have a great time with the decorations for an artist’s party. Have an easel set-up on the front porch with a painted message to welcome your guests. Or mount a hand-painted banner over the door that announces the opening of your child’s art exhibit.

Inside, use lots of bright colors to liven up the room and some artist accessories to add some fun. A few nights before the party, take an old, plain colored tablecloth and splatter it with brightly colored paint. Use inexpensive paint cans from your local home building store to hold utensils, snacks and napkins.

Let the fun begin A great idea for the first activity is to let the children create their very own party T-shirts. Using bright fabric paint, inexpensive kids shirts, and a small table, create a station where the kids can customize their own t-shirts. You could also use cloth aprons. This is a great way to protect their good party clothes during the party and is a wonderful take-home gift.

Have art stations set up around the room with various craft projects. The stations can be as elaborate or simple as you wish. Kids love to create with paint, crayons, scissors, glue, felt shapes, foam pieces and construction paper. Use your child’s interests as a guide.

Instead of a traditional birthday cake, why not let the children decorate their own cupcakes or make their own ice cream sundaes? Have small bowls of colored icing, ice cream, toppings and candies for them to choose from. They will have a blast making their own dessert and even more fun eating it all
