DVD - No Rules Knitting
“No Rules Knitting at the Teen Knit Café” by Leisure Arts was made in 2007. Chelsea Povall, the instructor, has lessons for a variety of stitches and projects. This DVD was made for teens - but adults who would like to learn to knit will also find this DVD helpful.
The DVD does a good job of covering the following topics:
Slip Knots
Cast On
Knit Stitch and Bind Off
Weaving in the ends
Purl Stitch and Bind Off
Joining Yarn
Joining Squares
Garter Stitch
Stockinette Stitch
Rib Stitch
Binding Off in pattern
Fixing a dropped stitch
Ripping back
Fixing an unintentionally added stitch
The projects and instructions on this DVD are very simple and geared towards young people. Projects include:
Several different scarves
A Safety Pin Hat
Rings
Bracelets
Lip Balm Holder
Ear Warmers
Leg Warmers
Tassel Hat
Wrist Warmers
Felted IPOD Holder
Rug
Throw Blanket
Dog Sweater
Messenger Bag
Chelsea also covers some related topics such as:
Dyeing yarn with kool-aid
Felting Knitted projects
Pom Poms
Making Tassels
Making Fringe
Polymer Clay Needle Toppers
Needle Felting using Roving
The positives:
If you are interested in learning how to knit, this DVD will teach you how to knit.
The DVD is split up by topics, so you can select specific stitches and projects without having to go through the entire DVD.
The projects are simple.
The negatives:
I thought the DVD moved a little slow. I think having knitting needles and yarn ready and working along with the video helps keep the DVD interesting.
I also thought the Menu was a little confusing. She mentioned going to another place on the DVD to find further instructions, when I went back to the Main Menu, I found it at the bottom of the screen in a box labeled at “Extras! Knit All About it”. It didn’t look like the rest of the menu options, so it wasn’t something I would have clicked on if I hadn’t been looking for something specific.
When it comes to knitting, I’m not an expert. I learned a lot from this DVD.
I rented “No Rules Knitting at the Teen Knit Café” from Netflix. It can also be found in libraries, craft stores, amazon.com and other stores that rent DVD’s.
