Book Review - PHP 5 (In Easy Steps Series) by Mike McGrath
Many years ago, I was just starting to work with PHP. My first book was a little 100+ page introductory book. Of course, that book has seen better days and is now outdated. If you are looking for a nice, easy-to-read introduction to PHP 5, you will like this book by Mick McGrath. The book shows you the basics of PHP and MySQL and has two working example scripts; user authentication and a guestbook. As you would expect, the book begins by showing you how to set up PHP, MySQL and the Apache server on your PC. Then it moves on to syntax requirements for PHP 5. With that out of the way, you learn the basics in the usual order; operators, statements, arrays, dynamic content, file handling, cookies and sessions, email, MySQL and XML. What this book does well is break the information into small sections with easy-to-understand explanations. Along with the explanation, is sample code and screen shots of how the results will appear in the browser. Finally, you are ready to try your hand at the two working example scripts. Mike McGrath lives in the United Kingdom and has been a programmer for several companies. I personally have enjoyed many of the books from the In Easy Steps series. The books are available at Barnes and Noble. Author: Mike McGrath ISBN: 0760763313 Publisher in USA: Barnes & Noble Books 192 pages Published: November 2004 |
