Buying Online Bargains
Buying from Online Auctions can be a great way to save money but beware if something looks too good to be true, it usually is.
Read the listing carefully. The words Gucci “Style” handbag usually means that the item is not an original. Similar phrases include “type”, “kind” and “like”. Some sellers even use terms like “Gucci Style Original”.
The key here is to do your homework. Find out what your desired item usually costs retail by checking shopping websites, cost comparison sites or even your local store. If the item is starting at a very low price try to find out why.
Some sellers simply don’t know the value of their items but most will and there may be a reason they are selling the item cheaply. Check their other items. Are these selling cheaply as well? Check their feedback. Read all the information contained in the listing. Is the item damaged? Or flawed?
Contact the seller with a query about shipping or insurance and see how they respond. Do they reply within a reasonable period? Do they seem helpful and friendly?
While these methods will help you still won’t know for sure until the item arrives. If the item is expensive consider using an escrow service. This will enable you to examine the item before you give the go ahead for the seller to be paid.
Keep an eye on new listings for any mispelled items. If you come across something you want lock the mistake in by bidding on the item. This will help prevent other bidders finding the item through a normal search and increase your chances of winning the item at a very good price.
Bidding frenzies can suck many bidders into bidding more than they would normally feel comfortable paying. Use the proxy or automatic bid feature to ensure you stay within budget. Pick the price you want to pay including the shipping charge and use this as your guideline. Don’t be tempted to check out the listing until it’s over or you may be drawn into placing another bid.
It’s your money and only you have the right to decide how much you pay. Make a budget and stick to it. If the item goes over this, let it go, check back every few days and soon you will probably see a similar item listed and you can try your luck all over again.
Don’t let your “bargains” get out of hand.
