One of our readers was interested in finding more clipart for the Martial Arts, so I did. The Martial Arts has Karate, Ju Jitsu, Taekwondo, Judo, Aikido, kung fu, and more. FYI: Did you know that colored belts for Karate are a Western invention? In Japan and China years ago the belt simply served to keep the jacket closed. The jacket served to keep you warm! At some time later in Western regions, Martial Arts instructors developed the habit of not washing their belts…Hence; a black belt meant lengthy experience. Again in the West, it was later decided to use the white belt to show the beginning of practices (novice), and the black belt to show the completion of “Apprenticeship”. Then came the Modern Westerners who decided to create different colors for smaller increments of progress. They believed this made goals more obtainable. The stripes, or tags, came along later to split up the achievement increments even farther. This was done again to maintain and increase enthusiasm. As time goes, new traditions grow upon the strong grounds of their forefathers. I found this interesting and thought I would share.
