Recommended Books for Couples Expecting Twins
When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads, Revised Edition: Proven Guidelines for a Healthy Multiple Pregnancy
Barbara Luke's book, When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads, was one of my favorite resources when I was expecting my twins. The book includes dietary recommendations based on Dr. Luke's research, and also incorporates quotes and comments from women who have had twins. Everything from how multiples are conceived to possible complications is covered in this book. If you only read one book before you give birth, it should be this one!
Having Twins And More: A Parent's Guide to Multiple Pregnancy, Birth, and Early Childhood
Elizabeth Noble's book, Having Twins and More is a more in-depth look at having twins. She cites her own and others research, and is a big believer in the "Nocebo" effect--the idea that doctors and others can scare mothers of multiples into so much stress that they end up having more complications. As a result, this book works hard to calm the fears of mothers-to-be, and also provides some very interesting information on the connections between twins, how to handle problems if they do occur, etc. I loved this book.
I absolutely loved Elizabeth Lyons' book. After reading this book, I was much more prepared for the reality of raising twins, especially in comparison to raising one baby (which I'd already done). To find out more about Ms. Lyons, her books, etc., see my interview with her at Survival Tips for the First Year with Twins: An Interview with Elizabeth Lyons.
