Make your own Travel Bingo Game
Much to the delight of parents everywhere, school is almost out for summer, which means it's time to start planning the family vacation. Driving to your destination is a great way to see the country but can leave younger passengers bored and restless. When the MP3 and the portable DVD players aren't doing the trick of keeping them entertained, a classic game with a twist can break the monotony.
Making your own travel Bingo game is simple and can be tailored to your trip. Here is a sample Bingo game that would be suitable if your destination was New Orleans. There are plenty of great tourist attractions in New Orleans for families like the Audubon Zoo and the Aquarium of the Americas. The French Market is a great place to shop for souvenirs and is located near other New Orleans' landmarks like the St. Louis Cathedral. There are many sites to visit while in New Orleans.
There are several Bingo patterns from the traditional straight line and diagonal to the hatpin or large picture frame. To keep the game going, the winner is declared when that person has a coverall, has seen each item on their Bingo card. To get a coverall with the sample board, kids will have to take their Bingo cards with them when seeing the city of New Orleans since all of the attractions aren't on a thoroughfare.
If you wish to make your own travel Bingo game, open up your word processor. Create a table that is 5 columns and six rows. On the first row, fill each column with one letter of the word Bingo. The other squares fill in sites you will see on the drive to your Summer vacation destination. To make it really special, include clipart that relates to the item in the Bingo square.
Print out several copies so you can play the game several times on your trip. Change up each Bingo card slightly so no two are the same. Travel bingo is a great way to pass the time on long trips and can also be used to make sure kids don't miss landmarks on the way.
