Formed in 2009 by blues singer/songwriter RJC and guitarist Jeff Jourard, Dance Hall Pimps are a genre-bending show band whose fresh sound ranges from swampy garage rock to New Orleans-style rags and romp.

Dance Hall Pimps are a six-man band with members consisting of RJC (vocals/guitar/banjo), Jeff Jourard (lead guitar), Bruce Mann (trumpet/keyboard), Steve Carr (saxophone/clarinet/flute), Vic “Baron” Migenes (drums) and Eddie Fish (bass/vocals) to create this band’s unique musical sounds.

“Add banjo to the moody organ and poetic vocals of the Doors, shake in the rock beats and riffs of the early Kinks and Rolling Stones, stir in the playful darkness of The Cramps, add a dash of the Preservation Hall horn section and indulge yourself in the swampy rockin’ good time spirit of the genre-bending Dance Hall Pimps.”

Stemming from musical inspirations including The Kinks, The Cramps, Electric Flag and Preservation Hall Jazz band, Dance Hall Pimps originally started out by recording a five-song demo and then playing a mere handful of shows around Los Angeles before they were signed onto Lakeshore Records (Lakeshore Entertainment) in 2010. Lead singer and songwriter RJ has been quoted saying “I like hiding serious issues in upbeat, even deceptively playful songs, and people should always look twice at our titles” because their lyrics tend to tell serious stories with a contrasting light musical sound. Their hit song Mommy was a Zombie has a novelty song title but it tells the underlying story of being raised by a drug addicted mother and without a father. “Without knowing the lyrics, its buoyant and cheerful roots rock beat masks the tragedy at the heart of the song” says RJ.

Dance Hall Pimps released their debut album on March 6, 2012 through Lakeshore Records, titled Beast for Love and their album release show is set for March 10, 2012 at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. The vocal tracks on this album were recorded at Nightbird Studios, located at the famous Sunset Marquis Hotel, and were produced by Rob Hill and Grammy-award winner Matt Hyde. Each member of the Dance Hall Pimps wrote, co-wrote or arranged at least one of the songs on Beast for Love, and all of the songs written and performed are told through captivating lyrics that contain subtle cinematic references and retro rhythms.

A portion of the profits of Beast for Love will be donated to organizations that fight the sex trafficking of children in the United States and provide services to victims. Using the slogan “Pimp Music Not People,” Dance Hall Pimps are sex-positive among consenting adults but oppose all human trafficking and sex slavery.
