Longhorn Council Ranger Campout



LONGHORN COUNCIL – VENTURING DISTRICT
WILDERNESS SURVIVAL CAMPOUT
AT WORTH RANCH SCOUT RESERVATION
APRIL 28 – 30, 2006

OPEN TO ALL VENTURE CREWS, PATROLS, & ADVISORS

TRAINING WILL INCLUDE:
HIGH ADVENTURE TRIP PLANNING
SURVIVAL SKILLS
WILDERNESS FIRST AID
PIONEERING CAMPCRAFT
LOCAL EDIBLE PLANTS
NAVIGATION TRAINING
BUILDING SURVIVAL SHELTERS

IF PREREQUIST CORE REQUIREMENTS ARE SIGNED OFF BEFORE ATTENDING, THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THIS CAMPOUT AND TRAINING WILL SATISFY THE WILDERNESS SURVIVAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE VENTURING RANGER AWARD!

Venturers may attend as crews or as individuals. All attendees must provide their own camping gear (for Friday night), foil emergency blanket, & food for Saturday meals. Cost is $ 13.00 per person. (Late registration after 21 April, 2006, Cost = $26.00)

27 April:
Staff set up at Roeser Hall, Camp Todd, and Kyle Mountain

28 April:
1500 – 2200: Registration, Camp set up at Todd
2000 : Movie “Castaway” (RH)
2200 - 2300: Cracker Barrel (RH)
29 April:
0700 – 0750: Breakfast on your own (Todd)
0800 – 0850: Introduction, Risk Management, Survival
Priorities, and Weather Awareness (RH)
0900 – 0950: Wilderness First Aid, Survival Kit (RH)
1000 – 1050: Pioneering Skills, Knots (RH)
1100 – 1150: Wilderness Foods (RH)
1200 – 1250: Lunch on your own (Todd)
1300 - 1600: Instruction/Demonstration of Fire Lays, Survival
Shelters, Knots & Lashings (Todd)
1600 – 1700: Hike to Kyle Mountain
1700 – 1900: Wilderness Camp set up, Survival Rations
1930 - ?: Sunset & Ghost Stories at Hugo’s crack
Last Light: In Camp, Overnight in Survival Shelters (Kyle)
30 April:
Sunrise : Rescue! Return to Civilization
0800 – 0830: Chapel Service/Venture Ethics Forum
0900 – 1100: Course Completion, clean up (RH)
