Raggedy Ann's Wishing Pebble - Review
I was given this book as a gift from my son, daughter-in-law and grandson and I just love it.
First of all, what's not to love with Raggedy Ann and Andy? They are always a good bet for a sweet, feel good story; and that's exactly what this book has. If you are unfamiliar with the history of Raggedy Ann, writer Johnny Gruelle wrote the story for his daughter, Marcella, in the 1920's; after she found and loved an old rag doll in the attic. Marcella was a sickly child who spent most of her time indoors and her father wrote and illustrated the original stories to entertain her.
This book is adapted from one of Johhny Gruelle's stories, but has been illustrated by Jan Palmer, and they are beautiful! This book is worth the price just for the illustrations alone. They are reminiscent of the best children's books that you remember from childhood. I especially enjoy the details found in the paintings of flowers and plants.
I highly recommend Raggedy Ann's Wishing Pebble both as an addition to any Raggedy fan's library and as a wonderful gift for a child.
