Former Model Judge Janice Dickinson Gets New Show
She may have spent the year getting ousted from America's Next Top Model and living the Surreal Life, but Janice Dickinson is returning to television next year in her own show.
The Oxygen network has put in an order for a new reality series based around Dickinson's attempts to run a modeling agency. The show will start with about 500 models competing for a chance to become signed by Dickinson for representation.
As to why they are greenlighting the new show, Debby Beece, president of programming at Oxygen, said in a statement, "She's starting a new business with all its challenges, while trying to be a good mom and guide new models through a tough business." The network feels this will appeal to viewers.
Often referring to herself as "America's First Supermodel," Dickinson, 52, rose to fame a second time when Tyra Banks cast her as a judge on the reality show, America's Next Top Model. She soon became the evil witch of the show, with her catty comments and unrestrained outbursts. Viewers loved to hate her and she regularly got into arguments with the other judges, too. After four seasons, the show's producers decided to fire Dickinson, and replaced her with 60s supermodel Twiggy.
Dickinson quickly found another reality gig, as a member of the recent season of VH1's Surreal Life. She again commanded screen time with her outrageous antics and immense friction with fellow Life-er Omorosa. Most of the cast couldn't decide what was the real Janice and what wasn't, and she often broke down onscreen.
She is also the author of two bestsellers, "No Lifeguard on Duty: The Accidental Life of the World's First Supermodel" and "Everything About Me Is Fake ... and I'm Perfect."
Oxygen has ordered 10 episodes of what is currently being called "The Janice Dickinson Project," and plans to add it to its spring schedule.
