Yuma Proving Grounds - Heritage Center and Golden Knights

Yuma Proving Grounds - Heritage Center and Golden Knights
The Army has testing grounds that cover over 18,000 square
miles located in Southern Arizona, California and Nevada.
The Main gate for the Yuma Proving Grounds is located about
30 minutes outside Yuma, Arizona, but the testing and
training occur over many miles of desert land.

The original testing area used by the Army and General
Patton stretches from Pomona, CA, easterly 350 miles to the
Phoenix, AZ, area. Yuma, AZ, is the southern edge and
covers the area to Searchlight, NV.

Located on the main Yuma post, is the Heritage Center.
The entire history from 1954 to present is covered. The
Korean War, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, and Bosnia are all
represented as well as the modern soldier. Visitors are
welcome to view the Post Commander's office as it appeared
in 1954; study models of military vehicles and view Army
uniforms, equipment and photos from WWII up to present
time. Huge arrays of photos and information is available
about military vehicles, equipment and munitions that have
been tested at YPG over the years. This is a museum any
history buff will want to have on his travel agenda.

The Golden Knights Parachute Team is in training at the
Yuma Proving Grounds every winter from Jan- March. The
public is invited to view any of the training, but will
require a security pass from the main gate.

The Golden Knights are a Yuma favorite. They are counted
on to join all the big festivities from the sky such as the
Yuma Jaycees Silver Spur Rodeo, MCAS Yuma Air Show and the
annual Hospice of Yuma Roping Round-Up.
