Matt Damon Receives Award from Cinematheque
Last night Matt Daman was saluted by Hollywood, receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award by American Cinematheque, an honor that even Clint Eastwood has never received...and mentioned several times during the TV love-fest. Technically, Matt received the award back in March, but the big evening was shared with the world (and me) on TV last night.
Celebrities filled the room, many of them waiting in line to roast the guest of honor. Matt Damon's Ocean's trilogy co-star, George Clooney, congratulated Matt via satellite during a supposed prostrate exam where he was draped in an ever-sexy hospital gown. "Don't touch those!" he winced as he gave kudos to Matt.
The audience roared when comedians Robin Williams, Ben Stiller, and Jimmy Kimmel (the evening's host) poked fun at the talented Mr. Damon. The beautiful Charlize Theron joked about the movie she did with Matt which failed at the box office. She laughed that it was the only Will Smith movie that never made any money.
Jennifer Garner presented her husband, Ben Affleck, as the one distinguished to bestow this honor on Matt. She added a few jabs, describing them as the original prototype for Hollywood's "bromance." The two men were childhood buddies who dreamed of making it big in Tinsel Town some day. Matt Damon added fuel to the fire when he said "To get the award from Ben, my hetero-lifemate" ..."
Jennifer Garner thanked Matt's wife, Luciana Bozan, for providing a solid family life for Matt and for putting up with all the Red-Sox talks by the guys. "Lucy" was pregnant with the couple's first child when they married. It was his first marriage, her second. For those non-celebrity gals out there, hoping to marry a rich movie-star, there's hope in their story. Matt and Luciana met in Miami where she was a bartender at the South Beach hotspot Crobar.
One thing that impressed me last night as I watched the show was the amount of charity work I learned Matt Damon is involved in. That always impresses me. Good-looking, talented, and compassionate. What a guy.
Many kind words were laid at Matt's feet, as the audience rose to theirs when the well-deserving Oscar winner received the prestigious award. Matt Damon is a perfect example of how dreams really can come true. Congratulations Matt.
