Spider-Man 3 - Tobey Maguire

Guest Author - Terry L Kosse

Of all the Spider-Man movies, this is my favorite. Not only is he reunited with his old friend/rival, New Goblin played by James Franco, but we are also introduced to the coolest villains yet. Sandman, played by Thomas Haden Church and Venom, played by Topher Grace, are quite a cast as they prove to be somewhat of a hand full for poor Spider-Man. Not only is he trying to support Mary Jane’s quickly declining career as an actress, he is also trying to juggle a relationship with classmate Gwen Stacy, played by Bryce Dallas Howard. For Spider-Man the women in his life seem to be the least of his worries as he struggles with his new alter ego that seems, not only too make him stronger but a little less heroic. Turning Spider-man into somewhat of a villain himself, the city sees a steady decline in their beloved hero.

My favorite part of the entire movie is when he gets to fight along side his used to be friend now rival New Goblin. Spider-man is having so much trouble fighting both Sandman and Venom that New Goblin comes to the rescue and together as friends, they conquer all. Unfortunately, Spider-Man faces a tragedy when all is finished.

There is a lot to pack together in this movie, tying up some loose ends from the previous Spider-Man movie, adding not only one but two new villains and the juggling of Peter’s personal life, but it all comes together in the end. Along with a great movie, here are some of the mistakes that I found.

Probably the most obvious mistake in the movie is when Spider-Man is fighting Venom to save Mary Jane. In a tussle between the two, his mask is thrown over the side of the building several stories down, but before the scene is over, he is mysteriously remasked. I am not quite sure how that took place.

In the scene when Mary Jane is forced to break up with Peter it shows her from the front while she is talking, then when it changes to Peter talking we see the back of Mary Jane’s hair. As the camera angle changes back and forth, her hair also changes. First, it is pulled back when we see from behind but then from the front it is down.

When Peter meets Mary Jane backstage after her first performance, her hands keep changing positions from on then off Peter’s shoulders.

If you haven’t seen any of the Spider-Man movies, you are missing something special indeed. Along with all the action, there are also some very touching moments along with some comedy. I highly recommend all the Spider-Man movies.
