Introducing a new voice in R & B - Nah-Jai
Shelia Goss: When did you decide that you wanted to sing professionally?
NahJai: Around the age of 16. After growing up in church and singing so many places with mass choirs, groups and solos. I understood when singing how God spoke through me and that my purpose was to share that gift with many more.

Shelia: Do you write your own lyrics?
NahJai: Yes all of them. My publishing company is called Natsworld publishing,

Shelia: Were any of your lyrics inspired by any of your past relationships?
NahJai: The lyrics were inspired by my experiences and others I have watched, Mostly they are all from something I have felt or wanted to feel, I recently had the chance to experience true love and can’t wait to write about it.

Shelia: If you weren’t singing, what would you be doing?
NahJai: Wow…reaching out to people in some way…be it a counselor or an advocate for some great cause.

Shelia: How would you categorize your sound?
NahJai: It fits into the soulful genre, Neosoul or R&B but definitely different.

Shelia: Are there any artists you would like to collaborate with?`
NahJai: Musiq Soul Child, Dwela or even Incognito

Shelia: Do you ever get stage fright when performing live?
NahJai: All the time…I heard Patti Labelle once say ‘once you loose the butterflies you have lost the love’. So with that said I am glad I have that feeling. It’s like letting someone in your most sacred place and hoping they understand and enjoy it at the same time.

Shelia: What do you want the listener to walk away with after listening to your album?
NahJai: Satisfaction and fulfillment in whatever emotion they are feeling at that time…I want the music to add to or replace that feeling with something good.

Shelia: Who are some of your favorite singers?
NahJai: Lauryn Hill, Amel Lauriex, Jill Scott, Phyliss Hyman, Rachelle Farell, Nina Simone, Sara Vaughn, Louis Armstrong just to name a few.

Shelia: How has your life changed since your success?
NahJai: I feel like I have more of a responsibility to keep going to give the people what they are missing…real music with a real message. It has become my duty and once you have understood and accepted your purpose it becomes easier to give and feel love.

Shelia: What advice would you give other young ladies who want to follow in your path?
NahJai: Hold true to your conviction and no matter what, never sell yourself short. You don’t have to be like everyone else to be accepted. Stand up for what you believe in and no matter what, remain focused and trust God.

Shelia: If your life was a reality TV show, what would it be called and why?
NahJai: Maybe something like The Facts of Life. It would be called that because all through my life he was preparing me for something greater and in that I went through a lot of bumpy roads… but still to come out stronger and wiser...Going through the Facts of Life..

Shelia: Is there anything else you would like to say to your fans?
NahJai: Yes. No matter what one tells you…You are special and we each have a purpose. Take some time to get to know yourself or be there for someone else. All that matters or will last is what you do for him.

I also want to thank everyone for their encouraging words because I too am human. It is because of them I am able to keep going and keep giving and promise to continue bringing timeless music…I love you all.

Don’t forget the album Journey thru an Ol Soul is soon to be released in March 2006, LP.
