Now See Yellowstone LIVE!!
Showing now until August 14th 2009, you can watch Yellowstone live on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you have never seen Yellowstone National Park, this is a great way to see Old Faithful on a live streaming webcam.
If you're reading this after August 14th 2009, there will still be videos, but they won't be live. I guess that makes sense. The shows start at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM MDT from Geyser Hill next to Old Faithful. The morning broadcast covers the area around Yellowstone, discusses the history and takes a look at the historic buildings at the park. Through the use of pictures, the buildings discussed are those still standing as well as those that have been lost due to fire, old age and other natural causes.
In the afternoon segment, the park ranger in the live broadcast discusses the hydrathermals that are present at the park and he shows the camera audience the graphic charts and pictures of what the geysers look like beneath the surface. While it might have seemed dull in your 7th grade geography class, the ranger brings it all to life. And when you actually get to see Old Faithful sputter away, hiss and then fall quiet, it will bring chills to your back. I know it did that to mine.
The July 23rd show discussed heat loving bacteria, mud pots, how Old Faithful's plumbing works and how it is possible to have water boil at 190 degrees. The July 23rd show also showed the eruption of Old Faithful - all on live TV.
You can visit the website and have a look for youself. It's pretty exciting that the nation's oldest national park is the first one to offer live video and discuss the park and its history. Ranger George Heinz is the ranger who does most of the talking on the video. With his white beard and photo grey glasses, he has a natural easy going style and talks about the park he loves with real enthusiasm.
While the video is about the Yellowstone National Park, the message Ranger George is telling is that all Americans need to develop a relationship with the national park that is near where they live. Each park is unique and offers the visitor a good time at a reasonable price.
Until next time, let me know what travel articles you would like to see, and how you are doing, O.K.?
