Water most often represents the feminine, unconscious or subconscious, emotional, intuitive and psychic aspects of the personality.
To dream of water is to tap into a vast resource of wisdom and intuitive knowledge. But, as with all dreams, it's not just the symbol of water that's telling you something, but also how you are feeling about the appearance that water makes in your dream. Is the water flowing or blocked? This will make a big difference in the interpretation. If the flow is blocked, it means that somewhere within your psyche you are experiencing an emotional block.
Waterfall
This can mean cleansing and release. If the water is extremely heavy, it may mean the process is very overwhelming or difficult for you.
Ocean, Sea
The ocean is mysterious, uncharted territory. It can mean excitement at tapping into your potential, or it can be a frightening symbol of your fear of what's hiding in the deep, dark, depths of your subconscious mind.
Waves
The gentle motion of waves may indicate you are moving forward or being carried toward something. More intense waves may mean you feel you are moving ahead too quickly, or are being pulled away from what you want to accomplish.
Well
Wells are deep, dark, and to fall into one in a dream may mean you are feeling trapped, or overwhelmed. To visit a well, or drink from a well, may mean that you are nourishing yourself and receiving wisdom. If the well is empty, it may mean that you need to take time to nurture yourself.
River, Stream
Are you trying to cross, but having difficulty? You may be feeling blocked. Are you swimming upstream? It may mean you are having difficulties moving your life in the direction you want to go. Is the river carrying you away from where you want to be? Life may be carrying you along too quickly, and you may be feeling you can't work on what you want to work on. Are you going with the flow of the river easily? Then most likely you are right where you should be in real life too!
Lake
The gentle, clear water of a lake may mean you are accessing your inner wisdom and intuition. If you are swimming in rough, murky waters, it may mean you are having trouble understanding your own emotions and having difficulty tapping into your intuitive abilities.
Pond
Similar to a lake, but on a much smaller scale, so not so much emotional turmoil.
Pool
To be swimming in a pool is to be immersed in the intuitive realms, consciously working toward emotional and intuitive clarity. To be forced into a pool, or drowning, is overwhelming stress, drowning in emotional problems.
Baptism
Emotional transformation, rebirth and personal growth.
Deep, Dark Water
Generally represents a fear of the unknown inner mysteries.
Tsunami, Tidal Wave
Overwhelming emotional stress.
Rain
Cleansing, purification. Healing of emotional issues.
Storms, Tornadoes, Hurricanes
Difficulties in emotional situations. The more turbulent the storm, the more difficult the stress.
Fog
Difficulty seeing through emotional situations.
To dream of water is a sign that your sub-conscious mind supports your emotional and spiritual growth. Paying attention to these dreams will allow you the opportunity to heal, move forward, and consciously live with emotional and intuitive clarity.
