Bo and Carly, In the Beginning
When Katerina Von Leuschner (a.k.a. Carly Manning) arrived in Salem on June 12, 1990, she was on the run from Lawrence Alamain. He seemed to terrorize her from every angle. Lawrence held her brother Frankie Von Leuschner hostage, poisoned Bo Brady, and later, raped Jennifer Horton. Bo seemed to save Carly from Lawrence’s wrath time and time again. She was the proverbial damsel in distress and he, her knight in shining armor. It’s no wonder that the bond that formed between Bo and Carly came from deep inside.
However, Lawrence wasn’t the only one who wanted Carly to call his own. Victor Kiriakis also did his best to intervene of the would-be union between Bo and Carly. Victor played on Carly's sympathies so that she would marry him, and then he faked his death and took off for Mexico in search of a treasure. It was the beauty of Chichen Itza, Mexico that captivated Bo and Carly. They were finally together after a series of mishaps that threatened to tear them apart forever.
Soon after their tender exchange of vows in a Mayan wedding, things started to go sour for Salem’s most heart-rending twosome. Once back in Salem, Bo was kidnapped and Carly became Shawn Douglas’s surrogate mother. Even she, a woman whose inner strength and resolve was becoming solid, she had her doubts that her one true love would ever come home to her.
When Carly seemingly gave up all hope that she would ever find Bo, the two were reunited at Vivian Alamain’s masquerade ball and vowed to follow through with their wedding plans. Carly’s past with Lawrence slowly began to unravel. The secret she had carried with her of the baby she shared with Lawrence was revealed, although she believed that baby had died. After received a disturbing call from a doctor who said he had vital information regarding her past, Bo and Carly immediately hopped on a plane for France in search of the mysterious Dr. Goddard. The son that Carly bore years ago that she thought to be dead was actually very much alive. This news added another continuing chapter to Bo and Carly’s life – one that would change their relationship forever. Nikki, the son of Carly and Lawrence, requested that he finally have a real family. He wanted his mother and his father to be together. Carly granted her long-lost son his wish. The family moved to Europe on October 18, 1993, where they remained until October 2, 2009.
Carly has once again returned to Salem, ironically, still on the run from Lawrence – this time, it’s his ghost.
