I wanted to update the readers and say
thank you to everyone of you very kind hearted people that have offered
room in your homes to the victims of the devastation after Hurricane
Katrina. As of 8:30PM Sunday night 118,548 beds have been volunteered
so far!! Also hurricanehousing.org has established a hotline number for evacuees without internet access to call and find housing at 1-800-638-4559.
I also have some other places to list your housing at in
addition to http://www.hurricane
housing.org and they are http://www.katrinahousing.org/
which currently has 24,724 listings. I also have some other resources
for those that need it.
http://www.fema.gov/press/2005/katrinavictims.shtm is for evacuees
and victims resources.
http://www.firstgov.gov/Citizen/Topics/PublicSafety/Hurricane_Katrina_Recovery.shtml#vgn-finding-loved-ones-vgn has shelter and housing information for victims, help for the victims, finding your loved ones, and how you can help to name a few.
Many of the resources I mentioned will also be
helpful for friends and families of the victims who are trying to get
some information on loved ones. Also the information for hurricane housing can be found at
http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art35221.asp
I also wanted to thank all the weather readers that have contacted me
in the last few days with offers for housing. Americans are definitely
a special group as we really rally behind one another when something
like Katrina comes along.
