Hong Kong, China has many free activities for the visitor. The street markets are some of the favorites. Most of the street markets are in the Mongkok district. The Yuen Po Street Bird Garden is the market for songbird lovers.

Songbirds are favorite pets of the people of Hong Kong. The birds bring good luck to their owners. Birds are prized not for their plumage but for their song.

The Yuen Po Street Bird Garden has songbirds of all sizes. They range from little budgies to large parrots. There are more than 70 stalls. The place is like an aviary. Stroll around the market and look at the birds. Enjoy their sweet chirps.

Not only are birds available for purchase, but there are many different items for their comfort. There are beautiful bamboo cages. All types of bird foods are for sale. There are grasshoppers, crickets, mealy worms and more. There are accessories to decorate the cage.

Do you have a songbird at home? Purchase a porcelain water dish for your feather friend. Maybe another item may catch your eye.

The Yuen Po Street Bird Garden as its name implies is on Yuen Po Street in Mongkok. It is open daily from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. The Flower Market is around the corner.

Yuen Po Street Bird Garden and the Flower Market is accessable by public transportation. Use the Octopus card to ride on the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) or public bus.

Come and visit the gathering place for Hong Kong songbird lovers. Enjoy the birds’ melodies. The bird garden is a beautiful, musical respite from the city bustle. And, best of all, the garden is free. Add this free activity to your things to do list.
