The Wedding Date (2005) Movie Review
Staring - Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney
At one time or another we have been invited to a wedding and the envelope was addressed to "and guest" because we didn't have a significant other at the time. Kat Ellis (played by Will & Grace's Debra Messing) doesn’t want to show up to her sister’s wedding without a date and face her ex-fiance who dumped her two years ago so she hires Nick Mercer, a male escort, played by Dermot Mulroney, to pose as her new boyfriend.
Not only does Mercer have to pose as Kat’s boyfriend for the wedding but since the wedding is in London, he has to keep up the charade for several days making this romantic comedy a little too obvious but still fun to watch when you want to watch a romantic comedy even though it’s ludicrous to believe a father would tell his daughter to snag a gigolo or that anyone would take $6,000 out of their 401K plan to hire an escort. This definitely isn’t Pretty Woman in reverse but it's not a waste of time to watch.
