Amelia Bedelia – Book Review
Meet America’s favorite housekeeper! Follow her adventures on her very first day working for the Rogers as she literally changes their home in her efforts to follow directions.
Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish, illustrated by Fritz Siebel
On the first day of work for her new employers she is thrilled to work for such nice folks is such a beautiful house. They can’t be there so they leave her a list of tasks they want performed.
First off, for a surprise she bakes them a nice lemon-meringue pie.
Then she tackles the list:
When is says to change the towels- she gets the scissors and makes some changes!
When it says to dust the furniture- she gets dusting powder and spreads it all around!
She draws the drapes with paper and pencil, and hangs all the light bulbs out on the clothes line!
Her day continues this way with her dressing the chicken that is delivered from the butcher – imagine a chicken trimmed with ribbon and lace!
When the Rogers return they are surprised to see the disastrous results of all Amelia’s hard work and they are both ready to fire her – until they taste the wonderful lemon meringue pie!
