DAB Dortmunder Low Carb Beer
If you're a fan of Heineken, be sure to give DAB Low Carb a try. It gives that same light flavor without the skunkiness that you often get from the green-bottled Heineken. Also, it's low carb!
DAB hails from Germany and has 92 calories, 2.0g carbs and 0g fat for each 12oz bottle. Its flavor is fresh and crisp. There's a gentle finish and no harsh aftertaste.
I don't mean to pick on Heineken - that was my beer of choice in college. However, I don't think most people realize how often those Heineken bottles are skunked. They just assume a Heineken was *meant* to taste that way. So in a way, DAB tastes like a "good" (unskunked) Heineken.
If you don't understand what skunking is all about, be sure to read up on my skunking experiment. It was quite eye opening, to see that beer can get skunked by only being in daylight for 15 minutes!
DAB Low Carb isn't in every liquor store, but if you ask at yours, they should be able to get it in for you. I'd definitely give it a try, if you're a beer drinker trying to avoid a beer gut! Regardless of what style diet you enjoy, 92 calories is very low for a bottle of beer.
UPDATE: DAB Low Carb seems to be discontinued, even though their website (as of 2014) has it listed. If you can't get the Low Carb version where you are, keep an eye out for the regular DAB Dortmunder beer. That is fairly low carb.
