Lu and Joe's Biker Bar and Restaurant - Maryland
Their food is the best kept secret in Maryland. Lu and Joe’s have been written up in the Washington Post for their good eats. They have Thai and Chinese cuisine, as well as, burgers and fries. Thai, you say. The owners are of Thai descent and are excellent cooks, so you if you like Thai food, this is a must visit. Their crabs, when in season, are some of the largest I have eaten at extremely reasonable prices. Make sure and try their jumbo shrimp, because in this case they are huge, not shrimpy. One of my all time favorites is their bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich, which is piled high with layers of bacon, and the price is so small. The Mama Lu Burger is also delicious with pizza sauce, ½ pound of beef, and cheese on a huge bakery bun. Prices range from $3.75 for a B.L.T. to $29.95 for all you can eat small to medium crabs.
They have a separate bar area from the restaurant area, although you can eat in either section. The bartenders, Sam and Mei are quick with their service and easy with their smiles. They have keno and Maryland scratch-offs for those who like to take a chance. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday they have Karaoke, and there is standing room only. The Mt. Airy and Damascus area have their share of potential American Idols.
Bikers hang out at Lu and Joe’s, so of course the food is excellent and the drinks are stout and at a good price. You are always welcome when you walk through the door and on any given day, there is always a friendly face to talk about riding.
You can visit Lu and Joe’s when you are in the Mt. Airy, Maryland area at:
1024 Ridge Road, Mt. Airy, Maryland, 21771 or call at 301-831-5577. Their website is www.luandjoes.com. You can stop at The Pit Stop in Frederick at noon and tool on over to Lu and Joe’s in the evening. Great roads are between the two destinations and easy on the wallet.
Until next week, ride and party safe.
