Free Activities in Hong Kong : Wisdom Path on Lantau Island

Guest Author - Taisha Turner

Wisdom Path is a little known tourist attraction on Lantau Island, Hong Kong. It is near the Big Buddha. Wisdom Path or the Heart Sutra Wood Inscription is outdoors. Heart Sutra is one of the world’s best known Buddhist sutras or prayers.

The outdoor wooden version of the 260-word prayer is on 38 wooden rectangular beams or obelisks. The beams are in the shape of a figure eight to represent infinity. The Heart Sutra is on the beams. The Chinese calligraphy is a work of art.

The Wisdom Path is impressive. The beams range between eight and ten feet tall. They blend well with the beautiful mountainside. People walk between the beams reading the solemn words and admiring the calligraphy.

If you are on Lantau Island, take a few moments to visit the Wisdom Path. Bring your camera and capture this site forever. Place the images by your journal entry to have forever.

There are two forms of public transportation to reach the island. The Octopus Card is valid on both forms. Invest in an Octopus card and save money.

1. Take the ferry from Central Pier, Hong Kong Island to Silvermine Bay (Mui Wo),Lantau Island. Take bus #2 to Po Lin Monastery.

2. Take Mass Transit Railway (MTR) to Tung Chung Station. Take bus #23 to Po Lin Monastery.
