Jack and White Review
As an American indie pop duo with honey-smooth and harmonized songs, Jack and White are a folk sounding, yet modern LA based guy-girl duo. Composed of American Idol 2008 alum Brooke White and singer/song writer Jack Mantranga, Jack and White are definitely “Double Trouble.”
After being set-up to co-write Brooke White’s first solo album at Brooke’s home in California on February 1, 2011, the two musicians quickly created their first song together titled “feathers” by the end of that first day. Soon afterwards, Brooke cancelled the rest of the upcoming writing sessions and the soon-to-be duo created what is now called Jack and White.
With Brooke White covering part of the vocals and acoustic guitar, and Jack Mantranga taking care of the rest of the vocals, as well as the electric and acoustic guitar, the duo are a match made in musical heaven. Their debut EP, titled Gemini, was recorded in friend, composer and producer Danny Cocke’s home studio in May of 2011, released on iTunes on August 23, 2011 and then fully released everywhere else on August 30, 2011 through digital purchase. As well as being signed onto June Baby Records, Jack and White’s first single “Double Trouble” was selected as iTunes “Single of the Week” and is definitely worth checking out – if you like catchy pop songs this is the perfect fix for you!
Their second EP, titled Winter, was released on January 24, 2012 exclusively through iTunes. Jack and White started writing the songs the day after Gemini was released. Look for the hit singles “Night After Night” and “Bright Side of the Bad News” on this four-song EP.
Jack and White have most recently recorded and released a cover album on June 5, 2012 that is titled Undercover. It includes covers that range from the 1960s to as modern as The Black Keys and Justin Timberlake songs.
Brooke White recently became a mother (congratulations!) so as far as new music recordings and touring is concerned, I’m not sure if we’ll see much for awhile but I’m sure I speak for many of their fans when I say that I hope to see them on the music scene again soon with more great folk/pop songs. Jack and White are definitely an up-and-coming hit duo and I can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us!
