John Nash is a brilliant mathematician who takes top secret work finding and breaking codes for the U.S. Government. Or does he? As John struggles in the world of schizophrenia, his wife, Alicia, also fights to make him see what is real and what exists only in his mind. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching the Oscar winning “A Beautiful Mind”.

· John Nash is walking up the steps at the Harvard University National Mathematics Conference. In the close-up as he gets to the top of the steps, he’s holding his briefcase across his chest and the edge is almost touching his chin. When Marcee calls “Uncle John”, it cuts to a side view of him and he’s holding the case further down.

· When the baby is crying in John’s arms, there is a close-up of the pacifier on the table. In this shot, the pacifier is laying left to right, with the handle/ring at the right toward the centerpiece on the table. When it cuts to the full view of John holding the baby, the pacifier has changed position, laying up/down on the table with the handle/ring towards the edge of the table and camera.

· Alicia places a glass of water and two pink pills on the table for John to take. The top pink pill is further up on the newspaper and to the left of the other pill. Neither one is on the picture that’s on the page. But when John reaches for them a couple moments later, the first pill is now to the right of the one at the bottom and the bottom pill is on the newspaper photo.

· John is talking to Thomas King over tea about being considered for the Nobel Prize. Thomas King is fiddling with a spoon in his left hand. But when it cuts to a front view of him when he says “Something like that, yes”, the spoon isn’t in his hand but it’s on the table. It cuts back to the previous view and the spoon is in his hand (slightly hard to see but it’s between his thumb and index finger).

· When the pens are being placed on the table in front of John, the first three run almost vertically in front of him. But when the fourth pen is put on the table, they’ve changed to a horizontal position on the table in front of him.

“A Beautiful Mind” (2001) was directed by Ron Howard and stars Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris, Paul Bettany, Vivien Cardone and Christopher Plummer. It runs 135 minutes and is rated PG-13 for intense thematic material, sexual content and a scene of violence.
