A Messy Bun
The trick of creating this style is to first pull your hair into a common ponytail that is placed high on your head. Wrap a covered elastic band around once. The next step is to tuck the ends of the ponytail under one or more loops of the elastic band. Do this by grabbing the ends of the ponytail and tucking them in while wrapping the second loop around them. Don't worry about being precise. If some of the ends don't reach or escape the band, it's okay. Leaving some of the strands out helps to create that messy carefree look. If the bun turns out too smooth for your taste, pull out a few strands. Use your fingers to seperate and pull out slender strands. Pull some of them out only part way for a more interesting effect.
For a more finished and controled look, use some firm-hold gel to form the loose strands. Simply put some of the gel between your thumb and index finger and then run your fingers over a small strand of hair. This will seperate the strands and cause them to keep their shape. Be careful not to use too much gel. You want it to dry quickly and stand up by itself. As the strand dries, the gel becomes stiffer making it easier for you to form it into the shape you want.
Finish your hair style by spraying it with medium or firm hold hair spray and top it off with spray shine.
