Dominion
Ages 10 and up
Players 2-4
Playing Time 30 minutes
Dominion is a fun game that can be customized and enjoyed by up to four players. It's never the same game twice since you decide which cards to include in each game. In Dominion, you are the ruler of a small kingdom, but you are looking to expand your borders.
Dominion is technically a card game but isn't played like conventional card games. It is similar to collectible card games in that you will build a deck of cards of your choosing. Each player begins with the same hand and then spends the game building up their deck.
There are 500 cards that come with the game. You will not use all of these cards. There are kingdom cards, victory cards, and treasure cards. Treasure cards are money. You can buy treasure cards or earn then from certain kingdom cards. Kingdom cards are action cards. They might force an opponent to put a victory card on top of his deck or earn you a treasure card. Victory cards determine the winner of the game. When the game is over, the player with the most victory points wins.
During your turn you will play an action cards first. Then you will have play your treasure cards and buy one item - unless an action card gives you another buy. Once you have made your purchase(s), you will discard your hand and draw five cards from your deck. If you have ever played a card game and hated the hand that you drew, Dominion gives you ample opportunity to draw. You should get at least a few good hands. When your deck is depleted, shuffle your discard pile and start again.
The instructions include which cards to use for your first game - making it easy to get acquainted with the game mechanics. There are also suggestions for other cards to use together.
The game is over when there are no more Providence(victory card) cards or three kingdom card stacks have been depleted.
Dominion is really fun and doesn't take that long to learn how to play. It's never the same game twice and is very customizable since you can choose which cards will be used during a game.
My husband purchased Dominion for our own enjoyment.
