How To Remove Bugs From Your Vehicle's Finish
One of the hardest tasks in detailing CAN be bug removal. We all have to accept the fact that bugs are harmful to our finishes. How many times do you see vehicles with bugs splattered on the front ends, grilles, lights, mirrors etc.? The fact is, there is no way to keep bugs from sticking and baking onto our finishes. Or should I say, I have yet to see a product that repels bugs and keeps them from sticking on. The way I deal with bugs and bug residue is to examine my vehicle most every time I exit my car--just to see if I need to do something right then or can it wait. If it is a "right now", I just spray some Turtle Wax Platinum Series Deatiling Mist directly on the spot and wipe off with a Grakar Microfiber Cloth. For example, if you are planning a road trip, you should wax your vehicle before you go. This will do alot for the protection of your vehicle's finish--especially from bugs! I ALWAYS wash, cleaner wax, wax and polish (all Meguiar's) my car before a long road trip. I have found that when I have reached my destination, I can wash my car and the bugs will come completely off! In all my experience of detailing, this is my best way of conquering the effects of splattered bugs and the like and potential damage to my paint's finish. On our last vacation, we drove for seven hours and when we arrived, my front end which is black; was yellow! I wasn't worried though, I went to the car wash and every single bug came off!
