“The Help’ is based on the critically acclaimed novel by Kathryn Stockett. After Skeeter returns hom after attending college, she decides to write a book based on the viewpoint of “the help”, African American women who work as cooks, housekeepers and raise children. The drawback is that it’s the cusp of the Civil Rights movement in 1960’s Mississippi. But when she gets the quiet Aibileen Clark on board and then the opinionated Minny Jackson, Skeeter may find out more than she thought. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “The Help”.

· Near the beginning, Aibileen goes into Mae Mobley’s room and puts the little girl on her lap while she sits in the rocking chair. In the close-up of Mae Mobley, when Aibileen is telling her “you is smart…”, it shows Aibileen’s hands around the little girl’s wrists. But when it cuts to a front view of Aibileen, the little girl’s hands are up but Aibileen isn’t holding them.

· Skeeter gets home and is trying on a green dress for her mother. When her mom is zipping the dress up, the front view of the two women shows the sleeve of the dress is on both of Skeeter’s shoulders. It cuts to a side view of the two when Skeeter tells her she got a job “writing for the Jackson Journal” and the dress sleeves are off of both shoulders. In the next front view of Skeeter, the sleeves are back up and down again in the next side view before she storms out of the room.

· Skeeter is talking to Miss Stein on the phone for the first time. At first, Miss Stein’s ashtray (with a lit cigarette) is on her right on a stack of folders. When Skeeter mentions Margaret Mitchel, Miss Stein is holding the cigarette in her left hand and the ashtray has been moved (it is no longer on the stack of folders). When it cuts back to her again (when Miss Stein says “…so a side to this never before heard”), the ashtray is back.

· Near the end, when Aibileen and Minny arrive at church, the crowd is clapping for them. As Aibileen starts down the aisle, a man to her left in a dark blue suit has a copy of the book under his right arm. It cuts to a close-up of Aibileen when she passes him and the book is now under his left arm.

“The Help” (2011) stars Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Bryce Dallas Howard, Allison Janney, Cicely Tyson, Sissy Spacek, Jessica Chastain and Mary Steenburgen . It runs 146 minutes and is rated PG-13 for thematic material.
