Halloween Coffee Fun
I don’t know about you, but spring and summer are my favorite times of the year. So right after Labor Day, I begin my descent, mourning the end of summer and lamenting the advent of fall/winter because to me they are one in the same. Just a bleak time (in my mind of course) where it is cold (anything below 65 is cold to me) and I can’t wait until spring.
So, to distract myself from this yearly ritual of months on end of misery, I have made a decision to enjoy all that each season has to offer, especially the holidays.
Since Halloween is coming up, I have come up with three things to do to enjoy the holiday and have fun around what else but coffee.
1-RECYCLE YOUR COFFEE CANS-A FUN PROJECT FOR YOU AND THE KIDS:
I seem to accumulate enough coffee cans for the neighborhood and I’ve finally figured out what to do with them. Recycle your coffee cans by turning them into a Halloween candy container for your child or to hold candy to give away by your door.
You can find instructions for creating one with acrylic paint and wire at Crafty Daisies (see links below). If that is more work than you bargained for you can cut construction paper to fit the can (overlap it a bit). Let everyone decorate the construction paper with Halloween scenes. Secure to the can with tape or use a hot glue gun.
2-HALLOWEEN CANDY SORT PARTY-
If you take the children out trick or treating, one ritual I know many parents have is sorting and checking the candy afterward. Instead of this being a chore and having your child groaning about all the things you are tossing, plan to go out with a few other families.
Put up a pot of coffee before you go for the parents and plan some fun activities for the kids. You can do a few traditional things like bobbing for apples and the like or just some quiet games or activities. A good Halloween DVD would keep them calm and riveted in their seats. Here are a few suggestions:
-Dora’s Halloween
-Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie
-Barney's Halloween Party
-Arthur's Scary Stories
-Pumpkin Season
-It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
-Spongebob Squarepants -- Halloween
-Bedknobs & Broomsticks
-The Nightmare Before Halloween
While the children entertain themselves, the parents get to socialize over coffee and sort the candy in peace—and maybe even get to eat a few pieces.
3-ADULT DRESS UP FOR HALLOWEEN-
The kids get to dress up and have fun, so why shouldn’t we adults have some fun as well? Don’t just accompany your children, you can dress up too. And instead of being a traditional witch or the like why not be a cup of coffee? No, I’m not joking. You can be a cup of coffee. Just check out this great costume:
