Two Tatted Edgings - Cecilia Vanek
This leaflet was produced by the American Thread Company as an advertisement for Star Thread. It was rescued from loss by Sharon Merrow (whom I met at Palmetto Tat Days 2016) and is now being shared with the Online Tatting Class and all the tatters on BellaOnline.com!
Here are two more patterns to enjoy. Pattern #8 reminds me of a row of flower bushes. It would be a good pattern to use a variegated thread in tatting the blossoms and a greenish thread for the leaves. You will need two shuttles or needles to complete this pattern as it uses floating rings. The chain is shown as completely straight. Take care in finishing that chain to get the right look.
R 2 (-2)x 11, 2 clr rw
CH 7 dnrw,
FR 4 - 4 clr dnrw,
CH 4
FR 4 - 4 clr dnrw,
CH 7 rw
R 4 + (join to 7th picot of first ring) 4 clr rw
CH 7 dnrw
R 8 - 4 - 4 clr rw
*CH 4 dnrw
FR 4 (-2)x 5, 4 clr dnrw
Repeat from * 4 times joining rings by first picots.
CH 4 + (lock join), 7
FR 4 - 4 clr dnrw
CH 7 + (lock join to small ring adjacent), 4 + (lock join to next small ring adjacent)
CH 7 rw and repeat for desired length.
Pattern #9 at first glance looks so similar to #8. A closer look shows a little more is going on. It mimics the outward facing floating rings of #8 but the rings here face inward and are further decorated with extra chains. To enhance the look, fully compress chains after tatting each element, except the straight ones on the bottom line.
