Fantasy is extremely popular nowadays. It’s especially the rage in video games, movies, and books, and it seems that food plays an integral part in all of them. Cassandra Reeder has released a second cookbook with dozens of recipes from everyone’s favorite fantasy themes, The Geeky Chef Strikes Back!: Even More Unofficial Recipes from Minecraft, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Twin Peaks, and More!, and it contains fun, easy to follow recipes for fans.

The recipes, of course are unofficial, but they certainly seem to be right on target. Almost everyone remembers Hagrid’s Rock Cakes from the Harry Potter series, but Reeder has developed a softer version that won’t break any teeth, and her version is quite tasty. Outlander fans (or Scottish food lovers) will definitely want to make the Highlander Sandwiches. They are simple, tasty, and very indicative of old-fashioned Scottish food. The chutney is especially good and leftovers are perfect for a traditional ploughman’s lunch.

Other fun recipes include Pizza Gyoza (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Otik’s Spiced Potatoes (Yum!) from Dragonlance, and White Dragon Noodles from Blade Runner. Beef and Bacon Pie from Game of Thrones is on my bucket list, as well as Ambrosia from The Sims video game.

All told, this specialty cookbook is for fantasy lovers who want to recreate some of the dishes from their favorite fantasy books, movies, and video games. The dishes are unique, and Reeder has made them delicious. The pictures are beautiful, the recipes are easy to read and follow, and there is really something for everyone here. Fun!
