Planes, Trains And Automobiles
Marketing exec, Neal Page, has been out of town on business and is determined to make it home to spend the holiday with his family. However, things start off bad when his flight home is cancelled and then proceed to get progressively worse as he finds himself partnered with the boisterous shower curtain ring salesman, Del Griffith. As the two find themselves in one unfortunate situation after another, Neal becomes even more determined to make it home. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Planes, Trains and Automobiles”.
· Near the beginning of the movie, after Neal’s flight is delayed, his wife, Susan, and the kids are shown eating dinner at home. In the close-up view, when their son says “I prefer noogies”, he’s holding his fork in his right hand. The scene cuts to a wider view when the phone begins to ring and the little boy is now shown reaching to the left side of his plate and picking up his fork.
· Neal and Del are riding down the road at night in the rental car. Del is driving but when the car swerves, one of the passenger side hubcaps comes off. A few moments later, when he takes the wrong exit, the view of the car shows the hubcaps are on the car and intact.
· Del and Neal are drinking in the hotel room. Neal starts with gin and then is shown switching to tequila. But, in the next view, when they make a toast, Neal is back to gin again.
· After the night in the second hotel, Del and Neal are trying to get what’s left of the car out of the now. Neal is pushing from the outside and the rear view of him, shows his right hand is above the frame on the passenger door. It cuts to a front, close-up view of him, and Neal’s right hand is now down, just above the door, near the windshield.
“Planes, Trains And Automobiles” (1987) stars Steve Martin, John Candy, Dylan Baker, Laila Robins, Michael McKean, Kevin Bacon, Edie McClurg and Ben Stein. It runs 93 minutes and is rated R for language, alcohol and smoking, and intense scenes.
