Scenting Your Way Into Business
Have you ever thought about starting your own business selling beautifully crafted perfume blends? What about body butters and facial serums? I'll admit, the entrepreneurial life is not for everyone. However, if you've been toying with essential oils and creating salves and serums for years, it might be time for you to test the waters. You’ve done testing on friends and family, not to mention the people that love your products at craft fairs and artisan trade shows. You actually got paid to do something you really love!
Can You Actually Do This? Yes, You Can! They Did.
Dom Bridges Why happens when you decide to leave the hustle and bustle of city life and move to a small village where seaweed lines the shore? Dom Bridges did that very thing. You see, Dom was an advertising film director based in London. He'd fly all over the world to shoot commercials for prestigious clients. His roster included companies like Coca Cola, Oz and PlayStation, to name a few.
Disillusioned with the advertising industry, He and his wife Jo moved to Margate, Kent and opened a shop selling handmade perfumes, beard oils and soaps, along with candles. What makes his perfumes so unique? Seaweed, their main ingredient! Seaweed isn't the only ingredient, it seems that Margate has wonderful herbs and flowers that grow in the area - elderflower, black currant leaf, sea buckthorn, dog rose, fennel and crab apple. They’ve added a seaweed extract skin care line of face creams and body lotions.
Then there's Botanical perfumer Alexandra Balahoutis who founded Strange Invisible Perfumes in 2000. She was determined to make a high-end perfume with authentic botanical essences. Strange Invisible Perfumes is her company and her boutique and headquarters is on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice California. She is dedicated to the art of botanical perfumery and happily tormented by perfectionism.
With botanical perfumes you'll enjoy the subtle essence of their aroma. You wear them, they don't wear you. You're less likely to experience headaches and nausea that often occurs when wearing synthetic perfumes. Her choice of essential oils are distilled from wild crafted flowers grown in organic soil.
These are just two people that have taken the leap into the world of entrepreneurship. Yes, it will be frightening at first and you'll ask yourself a thousand times: What have I done? However, if you're one of those people with a desire to work on your own terms at your own pace, and sincerely help people who love scents but didn't know they had a choice between natural and synthetic when purchasing, give it a go! You'll be so happy you did.
That's it for this week.
