Book 4 of the Tracy Crosswaite series, The Trapped Girl, by Robert Dugoni, is a fast-moving, well-written addition to the excellent series. Tracy is a detective working in the violent crimes unit at Seattle PD, and leads a team to find the murderer of a woman found submerged in a crab pot on Puget Sound. The identity of the woman is believed to be Andrea Strickland, who was reported missing by her husband, Graham, when they were on a hiking trip and she disappeared. Her body wasn’t found at the time, and Graham is a suspect since Andrea had a trust fund that he can’t have unless she is dead. Tracy and her colleagues are investigating and trying to fit the pieces together. Another jurisdiction, who originally was in charge of the missing person case – a small town department - has taken over the case and is fighting Tracy and her team on every clue they uncover. As the story goes on, the Seattle team gets official jurisdiction, but has to fight to keep it.

The story goes back and forth from real time with Tracy and what appears to be Andreas Strickland’s diary. Dugoni is an excellent writer and his style keeps readers on the edge while the story unfolds. Things are further complicated because Tracy has never really gotten over her sister’s murder, and several points in this new murder remind her of that investigation.

Thriller aficionados should add Robert Dugoni to their list of must-read thriller authors. He may not be as well-known as some other New York Times Bestselling authors, but his storytelling abilities are up to par or better. This is an author not to miss, and The Trapped Girl has enough suspense and surprises to keep readers wanting more. It is recommended that the other books in the series be read first to learn the history of Tracy Crosswaite, but this book does have enough information that it can be read as a standalone novel.
