The Ghost of Windy Hill – Book Review

The Ghost of Windy Hill – Book Review
A small family including just a mother, father, sister and brother live in a small two room apartment above a candle shop in the city.

The Ghost of Windy Hill by Clyde Robert Bulla

An ordinary family, but one that doesn’t believe in ghosts and aren’t afraid to go live in a house that is reportedly haunted. In fact, they have done it several times.

Based on this reputation a gentleman with substantial grounds, property and huge home in the country asks them to stay at his home for a month to prove to his wife that it is not haunted. She is too scared to live there, so they will go back into the city.

The family is thrilled to move to the country for the summer and settle in nicely the first day they arrive. Since they arrive rather late the mother suggests they all stay in the one bedroom on the main floor the first night and chose their own bedrooms the next day. Exploring all the bedrooms the next day they each chose their own bedroom for different reasons. Jaime wants the one with the fireplace in case it gets cool close to the end of the summer. Lorna chooses the one with the big four-poster bed.

While exploring the grounds the next day they realize they are being followed by an old woman dressed in white… could this be the ghost? She seems harmless and yet she appears often and they see her passing through the bushes and trees. Then they meet Bruno, the lame beggar boy who sits in the lane and waits for people to throw coins for him.

They discover that the old lady is just “Miss Meggie” and quite harmless as she goes around the neighborhood sharing happy news with all those who live nearby. She gives Lorna a bag of scraps and Lorna decides to make a scrap quilt, but the quilt disappears.

Is Lorna sleepwalking? Jamie and Lorna figure a way to catch her if she is so that she doesn’t walk outside and hurt herself.

They have quite a surprise when the bells tinkle outside her door- she is inside asleep, but Jamie goes after the culprit. What a shock!

Then the next day when the home owners return they have an even bigger surprise. Never in their wildest imaginations could they have been prepared for what happened that day. I can’t give it away- you need to check it out yourself.
