Bring a Cowboy Home - Book Review
I don’t read many romance novels-or I haven't in the past. I'd always thought the women in those books were sweet, petite, demure, in their twenties, and in need of protection. Nothing like me. If you’re a romance lover, don’t give up on me. As I said, I haven’t read many.
I just finished a book that changed my opinion. This modern day western romance by Gloria Doty, takes us into the more realistic life and romance of Lucy and Cal.
Louisa Crowder is in her fifties—a woman who knows her own mind. She is strong willed, and totes a Smith and Wesson 36.
Lucy considered it a running joke when her friend saw her off at the airport with the words “Bring a cowboy home.” She’d learned from a failed romance, to keep her heart protected. She was a woman living comfortably in her own skin, with everything hard work had won her—successful career, loving family, and a great life. A strong and independent woman. To her amazement, she soon discovered (as the book jacket declares) “Love can rope you in at any age.”
When Lucy travels from Chicago to Magnolia, Texas and meets rancher Cal Frazier, she finds her cowboy. Cal may be a bit disconcerted by her personality and her views on life, but being the perfect hero, he’s not deterred.
Lucy and Cal struggle through a few seemingly insurmountable obstacles from their past, and differences of faith. They must defend their love from the objections of their adult children. But, as always, love wins.
A comfortable and “feel good” read, Bring a Cowboy Home is a sweet and realistic story of family life and of romantic love after fifty. It will keep you reading from the first page to the last and send you out to look for the second in the Magnolia Series, Loving a Cowboy.
I was provided an electronic copy of this book. I was not paid or asked for a positive review.
