Divergent
In the future, the population is divided into five factions according to personality traits. When a teenager comes of age, he or she has to be tested to see which faction they would be best suited for. Afterwards, they have the freedom to pick where they will end up. But when Beatrice Prior, soon to be known only as Tris, takes the test, she learns that she is Divergent, belonging to no faction, which is considered a threat in the eyes of one powerful council member, Jeanine. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Divergent”.
∙ When Tris first lands on the net, the overhead view of her shows her right arm is bent with her hand above her head. She straightens her arm to hold onto the net. It cuts to a quick view of the others looking down from the building top and then a view of Tris through the net, where her right arm is once again bent with her hand next to her head.
∙ Four asks Tris what her name is. In the close-up, she tucks the stray hair hanging next to her face behind her ears. The scene cuts to Four and then back to Tris and her hair is back to the way it originally was.
∙ Tris switches places with Will in front of the target. Four has three knives in his left hand and one in his right. When he throws the first knife, a quick side view of Four shows he’s still holding the other knives in his left hand. In the front view of him, just before he throws the second one, his left hand is empty.
∙ When Tris meets Jeanine in the hallway at the Dauntless compound, Tris’ hair is pulled back and covers the top half of her right ear. It stays that way through most of the scene. But in the close-up of Tris when Jeanine mentions “despite your parents and your test result”, her hair is pulled behind her ear. It’s pulled back over the top half of her ear when Jeanine walks away.
“Divergent” (2014) stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ashley Judd, Zoe Kravitz, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Miles Teller and Kate Winslet. It runs 139 minutes and is rated PG-13 for intense violence and action, thematic elements and some sensuality.
