Needle Tatting from Donatella Ciotti

Needle Tatting from Donatella Ciotti

Needle Tatting from Donatella Ciotti

This is the first book by Donatella Ciotti, an Italian tatting designer, that I have studied. Glossy covers open to display 22 "projects both modern and elegant" and 9 pages of tatting tutorials spread throughout 95 pages of gorgeously photographed lace in full color. The presentation is terrific. 6.5" x 9" or 17 cm x 32 cm, published by Il Castello ©2014

The basic needle tatting techniques of ring, chain, picot and join are presented in photo tutorials. Later in the book interlocking rings, split ring tatting and beaded tatting are included. These patterns are traditional tatting and simply constructed. And, of course, all the patterns may be shuttle tatted as well. The Italian text is minimal as the designer relies on photo layouts to show the progress.

And, Donatella included diagrams with the double stitch count for each pattern.

This book will make a great gift for the preteen or teenaged tatter. Just think of the quality bonding moment you will have as you engage the interest of a child or grandchild and give them the gift of tatting. These jewelry patterns will catch the eye of young people and be a good introduction to tatting. The simple patterns will avoid any frustration. The bracelets and necklaces will work up very fast and inexpensively. And, multiples of these items could be made to match any outfit and to swap with friends.

The back of the book patterns feature lots of beads and flowers. A small purse is shown with the pattern and the instructions how to sew it. A perfect gift for prom night which may also be coordinated with the several styles of necklaces suitable for teenagers. The little sachet or gift bags shown could well be bridesmaids' favors and the tatted beaded flowers would be special gifts for the mother of the bride, too.

Wishing you many moments of happy tatting with those you love.

Note: I purchased this book for my personal tatting reference library
