Chinese Soy Sauce Chicken Breasts Recipe

Chinese Soy Sauce Chicken Breasts Recipe
This recipe braises skin-on, bone-in chicken breasts in a delicious soy sauce broth, which creates soft and savory meat. This makes a healthy and delicious meal served alongside steamed rice and steamed vegetables.

Two chicken breasts are used in this recipe; however, more can be added using the same amount of seasonings. The only difference would be in the amount of broth used to fill up the braising pot.

2 bone-in skin-on chicken breasts (about 2 lbs.)
2 green onions
1 inch piece fresh ginger
2 tsp pre chopped garlic (or 2 small cloves)
1/3 cup soy sauce
1 to 2 cups chicken broth

  1. Pre heat the oven to 325F and make sure that the oven racks are on the lower levels so that a large covered braising pot fits directly in the center of the oven.

  2. Next rinse and dry the green onions and then chop off the ends and discard them. Then cut the remaining onion in half lengthwise first, and then roughly chop it into about ½ inch to 1 inch pieces and set them aside.

  3. Then peel the ginger using either a knife or the back of a spoon. Dice it and set it with the green onion.

  4. Then measure out the 2 teaspoons of pre chopped garlic and set it with the other chopped seasonings. Pre chopped garlic can usually be found in the produce section of most grocery stores. If you can’t find it you can simply dice 2 small cloves of garlic.

  5. Next place the chicken breasts in a braising pot. Make sure this pot has a decent fitting lid. Then using a fork gently poke the skin of each of the chicken breasts. This is going to help the chicken soak in all the flavors of the cooking liquid.

  6. Then pour the soy sauce on top of the chicken, evenly coating each breast.

  7. Next add the chicken broth to the side of the pot so that it doesn’t remove the soy sauce on the top of the breasts. Fill the pot up until it halfway covers the breasts. Depending on the size of your pot you may use more or less broth.

  8. Then evenly distribute the seasonings, the garlic, ginger and green onion, around the chicken breasts.

  9. Then place the lid on and place it in the oven for 1½ hours.

  10. After 1½ hours carefully remove the lid and flip the breasts over so that the skin is covered with the liquid. Also make sure that the broth level is still half way up the chicken. If it’s not then simply add more broth. Then recover it and place it back in the oven for 2 hours.

  11. After 2 hours, carefully remove the lid and flip the chicken back over, again making sure the broth level is the same.

  12. Then raise the oven temperature to 350F and place the back in the oven but with the lid off. Cook it for another 1½ hours.

  13. After 1½ hours it is ready to serve. The best way to serve this is to remove each breast from the bone, slice them and then drizzle some of the sauce on top. This makes a great meal served alongside rice and steamed vegetables, enjoy.
