A Luring Murder Review

A Luring Murder Review
When St. Paul, Minnesota Homicide Detective Catherine O’Brien and her husband headed out of town for a much needed vacation, they planned on spending it far away from their busy careers in the city. Unfortunately, murder can happen anywhere including at a remote resort on the shores of one of the 10,000 lakes in their state.

Murder was rare in the small town near the resort, but shortly after Catherine and her husband Gavin arrived, the local sheriff asked her to help him out while they waited for the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) to arrive and take over the case.

Murder victim William Pease was found dead in the fish house, and further investigation revealed he had been killed elsewhere and moved to the fishing shack at a later time. Now, the question was which of the several prospects shot Pease and why the move.

After a longer wait than expected, help finally arrived so that Catherine could get back to her vacation. When she went outside to meet and update the BCA as to what was going on, she was shocked to see her partner Louise and their forensic pathologist, Diggs, climb out of the huge van instead.

Thrilled to be working together again, the three went right to work in a case that had numerous twists, turns, and uncooperative locals. When more mayhem occurred and they found their own lives threatened, the three had to step up the pace to find the murderer before him, or she, could strike again.

A Luring Murder by Stacy Verdick Case is the second in a series following A Grand Murder. The series now has a third Catherine O’Brien Mystery titled An Intimate Murder.

One of the pleasures of reading this series is the way Case builds the strong well-rounded characters that populate her locales. In this case, the way inhabitants of the small town interact among one another as well as their mixed reaction to the numerous visitors who bring much needed money into their area.

Some are thankful while others prefer to keep their remote local to themselves. Case understands their feelings and shows the depth of resentment in some of the characters. She brings to life a story that is difficult to put down, believable in its entirety, and leaves readers wanting more.

This book is a definite page-turner that will surely continue to build her fan base.
