Child Psychologist, Alex Delaware, is back in the 29th novel of the series, Killer. Alex is a consultant to the courts, and he takes a case (against his better judgment) where two sisters are fighting for custody of a child. Alex presents his opinion to the court, one of the sisters gets custody of the child based on his opinion, and the other sister vows to have Alex killed. The sister who loses custody is found murdered, so Alex works closely with his friend Milo Sturgis, who is a homicide detective. There are also some sub-plots introduced, which make for a fascinating novel with lots of suspects and little evidence.

Killer is a good story with interesting characters; it is also a study in narcissism and other mental maladies that are prevalent in people we probably know. The author, who is a psychologist himself, uses his knowledge to weave facts into a fictional story; making a good plot with believable characters. Even though Jonathan Kellerman is a prolific writer and churns out a book or two each year, he has not lost his touch, and continues to come up with novels that are suspenseful and have plenty of twists and turns, as well as unexpected endings. Like the previous Alex Delaware novels, Killer is an easy, fast read. Kellerman is quite meticulous in getting things right, and there are no scenarios left hanging. Unlike some bestselling authors today, the gruesome body count is not out of control, and there is minimal violence. Alex Delaware fans will certainly enjoy this novel, and those not familiar with this character will most likely enjoy it too.
