Stemmed Glass Charms
Raise a glass to the New Year! Break out the bubbly, sparkly, and fizzy drinks and serve them in stemmed glasses made more festive with these easy-to-make glass charms. Here are three ways to make sure that your guests’ drinks don’t get mixed up with anyone else’s!
"Skirt" glass charms
You will need:
* Stemmed glass
* Patterned paper
* Compass
* Decorative edge scissors
* Double sided adhesive tape
* Straight edge scissors
* Permanent marker
* Pencil
Adjust the compass so that it draws a circle just slightly larger than the base of the stemmed glass. On the back side of the patterned paper, draw as many circles as you need, that is, one for each glass. Now adjust the compass again so that it draws a circle around one inch in diameter. Draw the smaller circle in the center of each of the larger circles you made.
Using the decorative edge scissors, cut out the large circles. Using the straight edge scissors, cut halfway across the large circle and then cut out the small circle. Cut a piece of double sided adhesive and adhere one side one of the straight edges.
When your guest arrives, write his or her name onto the patterned paper with a permanent marker. Remove the backing from the double sided tape, form the patterned paper into a cone shape and stick the edge in place. The glass will now have a “skirt” identifying its owner.
Inchie glass charms
You will need:
* Heavy cardboard, like a cereal box
* Patterned paper
* Craft glue
* Craft wire
* Washi tape, 15 mm wide
* Pencil
* Hole punch
* Ruler
* Craft knife and cutting mat, or paper trimmer
Glue the patterned paper onto the cardboard and burnish it well, making sure there are little to no air pockets or wrinkles.
Measure, mark and cut the decorated cardboard into one-inch squares, making as many squares as there are glasses. Make a hole at one corner of each square, and set aside.
Make some washi tape twist ties measuring four inches long (Instructions here) . Thread the washi tape twist tie through the hole in the inchie.
Write your guest’s name on the papered side of the inchie using a permanent marker. Twist the wire around the glass stem to attach the inchie glass charm.
Variation: Use other shapes like circles, ovals or hearts.
Washi tape glass charms
You will need:
* Washi tape, 15 mm wide
* Craft wire
* Permanent marker
* Scissors
For each stemmed glass, make a washi tape twist tie (Instructions here) . Find the middle of the wire, then at the point cut a V-shaped notch in the tape on each side of the wire. Cut a 4-inch piece of washi tape, then loop it around the middle part of the wire. Pinch the middle of the tape to bunch it up and twist the wire around the tape. Write the guest’s name on the tape, and then twist the wire around the glass stem.
Here’s to the New Year! Cheers!
