The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen
It’s 1899 and it’s up to an elite group of “not so ordinary” characters to stop the vicious plot of The Phantom. Will Allan Quatermain, Skinner a.k.a. The Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, Captain Nemo, Dorian Gray, Tom Sawyer and Mina Harker be able to set aside their personal differences and suspicions of each other in order to complete their mission? Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”.
∙ Near the beginning of the movie, Sanderson Reed is going to meet Alan Quatermain in Africa. There is a view of the horse and buggy where the road can be seen showing there is no other cart in site. But when the buggy stops in front of the building, another horse and buggy immediately passes by them.
∙ It’s July 1899 and Alan Quatermain arrives in London. He is shown walking down a corridor and then down a stairwell with Sanderson Reed. Reed has a noticeable goatee and in the first view of the two of them descending the staircase, he is seen tossing a cane and catching it in his left hand. But in the next view of the two men (when there are more shadows) it’s actually a different person who’s now coming down the steps in front of Alan. He’s now carrying the cane in his right hand and the man is clean shaven. In the next view of the two, Reed is back and he’s now holding the cane in his left hand again.
∙ When Alan Quatermain first meets Captain Nemo, there is a wide view of the conference table. There is nothing on the table in front of Alan. But, when he sits down, there is now a folder on the table in front of him.
∙ When the League is on Nemo’s submarine, Alan Quatermain and Tom Sawyer are outside on the deck when Alan tells Tom “She’s out of your league”. During the back view of Mina (when she’s joined by Dorian), there are two wooden deck chairs. Later in the scene there is a table with a bowl of fruit when Dorian walks past them to go inside. But, when the Nautilus starts to dive, an overhead view of the deck and the chairs and table (and fruit too!) are gone.
∙ After the team has listened to the recording and the first explosive detonates on the submarine, there is a view of the conference room from the floor, pointed up. When the League and the table are thrown to the left of the screen, the ropes pulling the table can be seen at the bottom of the screen.
∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! Mina uses a knife to stab Dorian. At first she stabs him in the lower abdomen but when she pushes him into the wall, the knife is now in his chest.
∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! Near the end of the movie, M is trying to make his escape through the snow. During the scene he is holding a case in his left hand. But, in a close-up of his feet, he’s holding the case in his right hand. It’s back to the left hand in all other shots.
“The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” (2003) stars Sean Connery, Naseeruddin Shah, Peta Wilson, Tony Curran, Stuart Townsend, Shane West, Jason Flemyng, Richard Roxburgh and Tom Goodman-Hill. It runs 110 minutes and is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of fantasy violence, language and innuendo.
