The Upgrade Goes On
The golfers of Mill Creek Country Club have been watching closely the upgrade on golf holes number ten and eighteen. We have been checking carefully each time we play as to just what is happening on holes 10 and eighteen as to how close the owners are in getting these two holes ready for play. We have heard rumors that we may be playing on them before the end of the year, well the end of the year is coming up might soon. There is no way hole number 10 will be ready even though they have smoothed out and planted grass in much of the fairway.
The tenth hole is going to be 600 yards long from the tips a mammoth golf hole that is straight down the tree lined golf hole to yonder green that has stayed in great shape since the great flood. The only problem is getting the grass to grow and completing the water way below the green next to the fairway. We heard rumors that a special water hazard will be built along this ditch. Now if this area will look like the work completed on golf hole number six it would be great.

A lot of work will have to be done to the bank along this creek where trees have taken root along with cactus and other weeds. The sand trap that was in this area is now a big hole filled with weeds and grass. They have built a limestone dam along this creek so that is where this water hazard will be part of the new construction.
This always was a difficult hole and approaching this green called for a high lob shot to the high side of the green. If you did not fall off this shot your ball could roll back down the hill back into the steep bank to the creek. I don’t see that changing as this green is just fine as they have kept it serviced every since the big flood. I will have to practice these high approach shots as I have not been able to carry out that shot to the greens.
This is what it used to look like.
Golf hole number eighteen is coming along just fine, the new elevated green is looking good. All that is needed is some clean up of dead timber and limbs. The area around the green needs to have grass to fill in around the green where heavy machine were used to guild the green. This area has been leveled off and the new green looks huge.
It will be quite a challenge to get your ball to stick on this green. That is why golf is a challenge so we are looking forward to when all is finished and we have a consecutive 18 holes to play. The owners then can start on the front nine where more flood damage is found.
