Cleaning Hobby Spaces
About 3 months before any major event, Holiday season, etc. begins, you should take time to organize different spaces in your home. This article will focus on the spaces that are 'hobby' oriented - like a craft room, sewing room, maybe even a homeschool room. When you walk through your space do things fall? Are you worried that you misplaced something that you purchased? Do you find yourself making excuses to not use that space? If any of those sound like you, then read on!
The first thing you need to decide is what the end product will be. Are you just cleaning to have it look good or are you trying to organize as you go along? Once you determine this you will be able to work more efficiently. Efficiency is key when you are trying to eliminate 'stacked' areas in your living space.
Secondly, look in your space and determine the needs. If you are going to be needing storage bins, recycle bins, a dumpster, etc. You will also want to decide on what items to keep and what items to donate and what items are just ready for the rubbish pile. Be generous with donations - others will greatly benefit from your purge. This step can take several days. Don't take longer than a week because you will lose your focus.
Third, once you have been able to go through everything, it will be easier to determine the organization of the room, where things should go,etc. Go ahead and determine location for the things you need to make room for. If you are cleaning a sewing area, you might need more vertical storage to leave room on the floor open.
The most important thing to remember is that when things are clean organized you will have the creativity that you need and want to accomplish the 'hobby' that you are interested in. When things are in disarray and cluttered then it is too overwhelming for your brain to completely focus on what it needs to.
If you take time to clean things out ahead of time, giving yourself ample time to get things done, then you will have accomplished so much more!
Make it a great one!
