Cloverleaf Edging Mrs. V. C. Fitzpatrick 1918

Here is a simple repeating cloverleaf and chain edging from Mrs. V. C. Fitzpatrick as published in the Jan. 27, 1918 Plain Dealer. It was described as a good edging for a child's pillowcase.

Begin at the asterisk at top right. However,you may wish to rotate the diagram the opposite direction to follow the line of progression more easily. Use one shuttle and ball thread or two shuttles or one needle and ball thread.

Start chain with a starter picot: image of starterpicoton chain Georgia Seitz If you tat the chains in reverse order double stitch (RODS) then the cloverleaf rings will all show the front side up.

Chain connecting the cloverleaf sections: CH 6 - 1 - 1 - 6 dnrw
Create an inward facing picot by simply hanging a space holder (paper clip or safety pin) on the core thread. The first ring of the next cloverleaf will join to this space.

Repeat from ** for the length desired.
